Carer Support and Information Programme

The Carer Support and Information Program is a structured information program that meets for two hours once a week over a period of five weeks. The program enables carers to gain understanding about dementia, meet with other carers in similar situations, and develop strategies to support both themselves and their loved ones effectively. 

Each program is facilitated by a staff member at Alzheimer’s Australia WA. In each session, group members are encouraged to share experiences, discuss questions and provide support to one another in relation to dementia and caregiving. Topics covered in the course of the program include Understanding Dementia, Communication, Self-care, Services and Supports, and The Future for Me. 

This program is fully funded by the government, and is free of charge for eligible carers. 

The program will be delivered at sites around the Perth Metropolitan area including Joondalup, Canning Vale, Shenton Park, Mandurah, Morley and Melville in 2017. 

Please note that the following eligibility criteria must be met prior to joining a group: 

  • The carer must be caring for someone who has received a diagnosis of dementia or be in the process of obtaining a diagnosis.
  • The carer must be supporting a person with dementia who is still living in the community (not in residential care).
