The Dementia Training Australia consortium provides a national dementia training program. 

Led by the University of Wollongong, it brings together the expertise of Australia’s leading dementia educators who collectively bring a wealth of dementia expertise to this work. 

For the first time Dementia Training Australia provides a truly national approach to dementia training with members based in every state and territory. 

As part of Dementia Training Australia, Alzheimer’s Australia is pleased to be able to offer the Dementia Essentials fully funded dementia specialist accredited course: 

CHCAGE005 - Provide Support to People Living with Dementia

This course is suitable for people currently working in aged care, health care and community services who regularly provide care services for people with dementia.  This is an accredited unit with written and workplace assessment requirements. Upon completion,  you will receive a Statement of Attainment that will enable you to claim credits if you plan to undertake a related qualification.

Cost: This course is fully funded by the Commonwealth Government as part of its Dementia Training Program initiative. 

Participants in this workshop will gain an understanding of:

  • Person-centred care and effective communication;
  • The nature of dementia and its impacts;
  • Triggers for behaviors and effective responses;
  • Activities to promote well-being; and
  • Workplace issues, community support and services available.

Delivery: 

The course can be delivered at your workplace in a format that is convenient to your organisation and meets your staff’s needs. There will also be a number of courses being held across the country, please check education events in your State or Territory or contact your local education team. The Statement of Attainment will be issued by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic. RTO Code 2512. 

Participant requirements: 

To be eligible for the Dementia Essentials program, you must be directly working with people living with dementia and be able to be supervised interacting with 2 people living with dementia to satisfy the workplace assessment criteria. If a person cannot be supervised, they can receive a certificate of attendance. 

Participants must attend all 3 days.
